5th Song You Should Be Thankful For: Lee Brice – I Drive Your Truck

I heard this song almost a year ago when I was first put on to Lee Brice, and I knew back then that this song was going to be a single, and if it wasn’t going to be a single it was at least going to be an exceptionally important song, at least to me. The song is about a sibling who lost his brother overseas in the war and the only way he coped with the loss is to drive his brother’s truck and displace his grief into the accelerator. I’ll be completely honest and say that I’m an unapologetic patriot, and I support the troops 100% even if I don’t agree with the policies that got them there in the first place. That being said, I can’t imagine how anyone can’t sympathize with this song, the loss of a sibling is extremely tough and sometimes you need to just vent. Jimmy Yeary (the co-writer) said in an interview that he heard on a radio show about a mother who coped with the loss of her son in the war by driving his truck around and that it touched him so much he wanted to commemorate it in some way. I’d have to say I agree.
